Square Gutters Again

Another great looking house by another great Scandinavian firm. When I first saw the images, I was immediately reminded of this house (check out the gutters!). In fact, I thought they might be the same firm, but turns out this project it bySwedish firm Sandell Sandberg.

Mutewatch

I have only started wearing a watch in the last year or so, but I am dying to replace it with this watch. Designed by Swedish firm Mutewatch, this thing is just gorgeous. I may actually get on the waiting list for when it comes out in July!

More by A2

I've featured Swedish designers A2 before... Ican't help it, I just love their use of minimal forms and bright colors. If only my house wasn't already chock-o-block full of furniture, I would happily add any of these pieces to my collection.

Volume and Light

This is a great little summer house (or even full time house) by Tham & Videgard Arkitekter. It uses a simple form and palette of materials, but uses volume and directed views to create a special experience. The finished photos really show off the texture and light in the space, but I really love the study model photos. It is always great to see how architects actually think and work.

Cute and Compostable!

One of my favorite architects/designers, Claesson Koivisto Rune has a new design for a children's chair. Made from a pulp comprised of paper and a cornstarch based plastic, this chair is not only light and durable (which is great for kids!), but also completely biodegradable.
Very cool indeed.

New Dress for an Old Lady

Fredrik Färg scavenges the bones from old furniture and tailors a new dress to them. The results are equisite and timeless... I'd love a few for my parlor (that is...if I had a parlor!)

Swedish Small Homes

These little gems by well known Swedish firms Kjellander + Sjöberg Arkitektkontor, Sandellsandberg Arkitekter and Tham & Videgard Hansson Arkitekter are being sold by Sommarnojen and can be used as full time mini homes or part time vacation homes. The simple designs are quite lovely, and the choice of materials is very Swedish. Unfortunately, I can't tell you much more about them as I can't read Swedish!
These caught my in part because they are so lovely, and in part because a friend of mine and I are currently working on some plans for small homes... If we can produce something half as lovely as these, I'll be happy.

Collect

I really like the simplicity of the form and playfulness of the colors in this cabinet by A2.

Katarina Hall

I'm not sure what Katarina designed first... the furniture or the interior, but the result is lovely either way. Using a simple palette of forms and materials, Katarina accents the stark white interior with bright spots of color. Its a really cheery interior and keeps the minimal design from being too stark and cold.

Not Afraid of Color or Pattern

The interiors of this apartment by Tham & Videgard Hansson Arkitekter sure are really bright and lively! The herringbone pattern is carried throughout the rooms and up the wainscot on the walls, which give a dynamic energy to the apartment. The variety of colors is wild, with colors relating to the rooms while bleeding beyond the typical boundaries of the individual spaces. The open doorways and bleeding colors draw your eye (and energy) beyond the room you are occupying into the rooms beyond. The architects were also lucky enough to select the furniture, too. They selected (and designed) some really spectacular pieces of modern furniture, sticking to an all white palette of furniture in order to not compete with the flooring and walls. You can see some of the furniture in a few photos... Still, I'd love to see photos of the home once its being occupied. I can imagine that children would really love this place!
