DESIGN AUSTRIA FUTURISTIC INTERIOR PROJECT IT ENTREPRENEUR HOME IN VIENNA. This futuristic project Villa F is located in Vienna, Austria and was designed by the architects over at Najjar & Najjar. A real fan of Mac computer designs and Lamborginis, the owner wanted a place where he could live and work and that would reflect his passions

2X BEHF

I feel like I should hate this project by BEHF.... The colors alone should be way too much in such a large structure. And generally, I would find the rotated floor plates a bit heavy handed. But for some reason, I really like this project. Maybe it is because I know that the high-rise is located in the Philippines. It just seems totally appropriate for a tropical city. I wish I could read the German on the website to see if it actually is slated for construction.

Of course, the retail space above has already been built, so we don't have to wonder about what would actually make through the design process. Personally, I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about the interior; there's nothing wrong with it, but I do feel as those I've seen it before. But the exterior... now that is lovely. I love the way the canopy engages the street; it's both welcoming and protective. I can easily see that store becoming a meeting place... it would be easy to recognize, and fun to visit!

WoZoCo Inspired?

Its really impressive how many apartment projects have been influenced by MVRDV's WoZoCo... The Lanserhofwiese Residential Project by Wimmer Zaic Architects is an interesting project, almost looking fake the way its perched atop those spindly legs. Intended as a high density housing solution, providing interest and interaction with its neighbors, it seems somewhat, although not entirely successful. Obviously, the neighbors will be intrigued by the project (and its bright colors!), but the building actually seems somewhat isolated to me. It could be plopped down on any flat lot anywhere in the world... It doesn't seem to me as if its interacting with the neighborhood at all.

Folds

Thomas Feichtner has a wide range of work, all with a very similar folded style. There are some really lovely pieces in his collection, but I'd love to see him expand his aesthetic. But, you've got to admit it... he's got a clearly defined style!

On the Side

I quite like this mountain cabin by Austrian architectural firm Raumhochrosen. This simple exterior actually looks moderately affordable, and the horizontal lines of the board formed concrete at the exterior contrast nicely with the verticality of the exterior. Even with large expanses of glass, the change in levels and materials provides a cozy interior. I'm certainly ready to sip some hot cocoa and watch the snow fall...

These modern birdhouses are also by Raumhochrosen and are too cute... while I'm pretty sure that any architecture student willing to part with one of his/her models could retrofit it for a few birds, I'm really amused by this architecture firm's foray into fowl architecture. Everyone has got to have something going on the side, right?!?!

Totenkapelle Batschuns

This new studio by marte.marte offers an interesting contrast to the local vernacular in terms of its form, but the materials and construction are quite consistent with the techniques of the surrounding areas. The simple clean lines of the box are the perfect backdrop for an artists' own projects. But while the interior light is quite dramatic, I wonder if its conducive to artistic endeavors like painting and drawing? I'd be very interested in learning more about the project... so if anyone speaks German and wants to translate the site, please share with us all!

Delicate Delugan

The Town House Wimbergergasse is a mixed used urban infill project by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects. A design that incorporates green roofs into its topography of roof structures, I am particularly drawn to the delicate designs on the glazing. This patterning creates 3 dimensional depth at the facade and provides some spectacular light and show at the interior. Although I quite like the vignettes created by the complex forms of the roof and simple lines of the facade, it almost looks like these two elements are part of two separate projects. I'd be very interested in visiting the project to see how these design elements relate to each other in real life.

DASPARKHOTEL

Andreas Strauss, an Austrian art college graduate has found a new use for old concrete pipes... By incorporating doors with individual key pad locks, and minimal accessories, the artist has created a unique hotel located in a park near the Danube. Talk about an interesting re-use of building materials!

Fabulous Folding Facade

A friend sent me a link to this project by BEHF Architeckten... Even thought I'm not generally a fan of mirrored glass, you've got to love the folding element of this project. An interesting element, is that I don't think that the glass is actually mirrored, but the dark sky background helps to create a mirror when the curtains are open at night. The architect's objective was to create an atmosphere full of energy and drama and they've obviously succeeded! As usual, I love the interplay between the older existing facades, and the new technical one. Still, I'd be interested in checking out the restaurant front when all of the glass curtains (a new take on a glass curtain wall, for sure!) are closed. I wonder if the glass wall allows you to peek into the restaurant, or if it acts as a mirror reflecting the city street. Seifert House - Michael Shamiyeh
